Pakistan is on the frontlines of a climate crisis it barely contributed to. Crops are failing. Glaciers are vanishing. Cities are choking. And yet, the most powerful thing we have is something no scientific report can capture: the human story. Climate Qissa is built to collect those stories. From farmers in Sindh to students in Lahore, from grandmothers in Gilgit to engineers in Karachi, every voice belongs here. Because data tells us what is happening. Your stories tell us why it matters.

Every two weeks, community submissions are woven into a single narrative. Each Chronicle captures how Pakistan is living with climate change right now.

I write about climate for the World Economic Forum and Dawn. Much of my work has involved researching a problem, finding the numbers that explain it, and trying to make sense of what those numbers mean for people.
That work matters. But over time, I started noticing what can get lost along the way.
A glacier becomes a retreat rate. A heatwave becomes a temperature. A flood becomes a figure in a report. Air pollution becomes an AQI reading.
All of those things are true. None of them tells you what it is like to live through them.
I grew up in Lahore, where winter used to mean fog. Now, every year, there are days when the air is difficult to ignore. We check the AQI, shut windows, cancel plans and wait for the air to clear. The number tells us how bad it is. It doesn't always give us the words for what it feels like to live with it.
That is the space I want Climate Qissa to occupy: between the fact and the lived experience.
A flood story from a village in Sindh that never travels beyond the people who experienced it. A worker spending hours on a roof in Karachi during extreme heat. A young person trying to make sense of climate anxiety. A farmer whose relationship with the seasons is changing.
These stories don't compete with data. They give the data somewhere to land.
Climate Qissa is bilingual because many of us are. We move between Urdu and English without thinking about it. Sometimes one language says something the other cannot quite hold. And climate writing should not belong only to people who already know how to talk about climate.
And climate writing should not belong only to people who already know how to talk about climate. If you're seventy, there is room for it. If you know the science, write about it. If all you know is that the river near your home no longer looks the way it used to, start there.
I started Climate Qissa because a climate story shouldn't have to become impersonal before people take it seriously.
